Loctite 271 threadlocker for gas block set screws.
3ml in a 5ml syringe for easy application and storage.
Enough to do several gas blocks at a time.
We recommend degreasing the threads of your gas block set screws and gas block with alcohol or acetone. Although Loctite 271 is resistant to slightly greasy threads, we have found that the primary cause of failure comes from improper cleaning and installation of the threadlocker rather than the type used.
We have tested 271 to extremely high temperatures without failure.
Although Loctite 271 threadlocker has a slightly lower temperature rating than other options, it has a higher breaking torque and is also resistant to vibration and impact.
If you do a lot of work on ARs for yourself or friends, consider picking up an Armorer Chem Kit which includes all of the needed grease and threadlockers to build your gun right!
If you follow the procedure below, your gas block wont budge! The same process is used by several high end manufacturers.
Recommended gas block set screw installation procedure:
-Dimple the barrel with a quality barrel dimpling jig.
-Clean threads of knurled cup tip set screws and gas block.
-Install enough threadlocker onto the threads of the screws to coat the threads but don’t overdo it. (Do not just drip it into the hole!)
-Install each set screw and torque to 25 in/lbs. If using a simple allen tool, torque until you see the handle bend.
-Wipe away any residual Loctite
For additional insurance, consider having your gas block pinned.
